Distraction- A Learned Behavior

Distraction can be a learned behavior.

I wonder about its origin.

If you notice it gets triggered when you want to escape something you don't like. The ability to focus is dependent on the likeliness factor rather than the value & importance of what you're doing.

Given that not everyone behaves the same. Some choose distraction while some choose the pain. What makes the difference?

Though, the deciding factors could be many, why you behaves a certain way, one factor is your early childhood and the environment around you, that shaped your identity and identifications.

Does this mean it is permanent and nothing can be done about it?

NO!

It only takes some new and different choices to break patterns.

How can you do that?

By the simple practice of Visualization!

First, recall all the times in your mind when you chose to get distracted from something important, imagine having an eraser in your hands, and keep erasing these imageries and memories from your mind. As you erase those memories, observe a blank canvas in front of you where you can create a new response, which might include watching yourself doing what's important and staying focused on the goal.

Remember, it's about training your mind to work in your favor rather than cursing it or being a slave of it. It might take some practice for it to become a habit. So, practice everyday until you realize that in your real life your ability to deal with challenging situations has increased, you are not running away from them but you're facing them.

Much Love ❤
